Your Neighborhood Third Space

Third spaces are important for providing an environment outside of home and work where people can relax, socialize, and engage in informal activities. These spaces foster community, creativity, and personal well-being, offering a sense of belonging and connection that might not be found in the more structured settings of home or work.

Here are a few reasons why third spaces matter:

  • Social Interaction: Many people experience social isolation, especially in urban settings, and even more so in a post-pandemic world that revolves around delivery-based eating and shopping, remote work, and online interaction. Third spaces, such as coffee shops, parks, libraries, or community centers, offer places to meet new people, maintain friendships, and engage in spontaneous conversations.  Third spaces also serve as gathering points for people from diverse backgrounds, helping to build stronger community bonds.

  • Creativity and Innovation: Third spaces often foster creativity because they remove the boundaries and expectations of formal environments. Many creative ideas emerge when people are free to think, collaborate, or just daydream in a relaxed space.  These places can become a home for community-driven events such as performances, art shows, book clubs and other intellectual meet-ups that help enrich the creative and cultural fabric of a society.

  • Mental Health and Well-being: Having a designated space outside of home and work where individuals can unwind, socialize, and recharge can be crucial for mental health. These spaces provide a sense of refuge and peace by providing an alternative setting for relaxation, creative thinking, and fun social interaction.  They allow people to escape the rigidity of both work and home environments.

The Art Mart has been your friendly neighborhood third space since 2019.

Supporting Small Businesses

When you purchase a product or service from a small business, you help strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and keep your community vibrant and unique. More of your money stays in the community, helping families, funding public services, and fostering economic resilience. Small businesses also bring creativity and personalized service that large corporations often can’t match, offering products, ideas, and experiences that reflect the character of the people behind them. By choosing to support them, you’re not just making a purchase; you’re investing in innovation, sustainability, and the long-term health of your community.

The Art Mart has always been proud to champion small businesses, both those that participate in our markets, and those that host them. We only allow artists, makers, designers, and in-person services, with a few antique and vintage dealers admitted on an extremely limited and juried basis. You won’t find resellers or MLMs here.
